SACS U19 B vs PAUL ROOS U/19 B
On Saturday Paul Roos won the toss on the Paul Roos Oval and send us in to bat. As the rules off declaration cricket, we had 70 overs to bat and they had 50.
Paul Roos bowling was on point and SACS was in huge trouble at 24-4 only batsman in the top 4 that made runs was Robin Aspeling with a gutsy 17. This brought the captain Luke Bales and Thathenda Shuttleworth to the middle. The two off them really got stuck into their batting and fought each ball they faced to get SACS back on track. The partnership off 87 was ended when Shuttleworth was bowled for 42. In came Kai Gregg and he started where Shuttleworth left off and built a nice partnership with Bales.
With the score on 133/6 Bales went out for a well-deserved 53. Gregg took the team to the end, and ended with a score of 28 not out , unfortunately running out of support. SACS was bowled out for 163 in the 58th over. A great comeback from the SACS boys.
Paul Roos needed 164 to win in 62 overs and this gave the SACS bowlers a great challenged that they wanted to win.
Luke Gibson and Hayden Byrne came out flying with the new ball and the Paul Roos boys had no answer to the bowling of the opening bowlers. Not long into the start off the innings Gibson took two in two balls and had Paul Roos 7/2. Not long after that Byrne took the stumps right out off the ground. Paul Roos settled down and had a great partnership with the score on 94/4 in 20 overs. Josh Scott broke the partnership thanks to a good catch from Gregg. This wicket gave the SACS boys believe. The introduction of Rihaz Fredricks changed the game completely. Fredricks bowled brilliantly and was soon on a hatrick ball after picking up 2 wickets. The hatrick ball was a perfect Yorker that the batsman handled well but the following ball Fredricks had his man with a solid catch from Luke McMeeking. That wicket was the wicket that turned the game for SACS. Matthew Fernandes held his own at the one end and ended with figures of 2/26. Fredricks 4/33 , Gibson 2/20 Byrne 1/30 and Scott 1/15 bowled Paul Roos out for 124 in the 33.2 over.
A great bowling and fielding performance gave SACS a well-deserved 32-run victory over Paul Roos.
