The S.A. College High School (SACS) is the oldest high school in continuous existence in South Africa. From the earliest days of it life in the Gardens, Cape Town, cricket has been played by its students, whether informally amongst the oaks on Government Avenue or on the manicured surfaces of its present-day playing fields at Montebello, Newlands.
Peter Kirsten, the greatest cricketer produced by SACS, was playing in the first team at 14 and went on to captain the South African National Team. Dane Piedt is our most recent Protea player.
SACS believes it is vital to maintain, and in some cases recapture, the spirit and traditions in which cricket is played. The values of honesty, fair play, respect for others, accepting the umpire’s decision, courtesy and self-discipline are enshrined in the game. Coaches, captains, players and administrators are given the responsibility of upholding these traditional values, which make cricket such a great game.
We believe that we should aim for a large percentage of our boys to develop into very good schoolboy and club cricketers. We strive to ensure that they enjoy their time at SACS developing their skills. This will encourage our boys to firstly represent Western Province Youth Teams and secondly to test their ability against better opposition when they leave SACS.
